The big Christmas storm is hitting California right now.

NOAA has issued Winter Storm Warnings all over California today and tonight that are calling for feet of snow. ย There’s even 8-16″ of snow forecast for Los Angeles’ mountains…

From what we can see right now in these forecasts, Christmas Day will be THE DAY.

1-2 Feet of Snow is forecast for Lake Tahoe.

* TIMING: SNOW WILL MOVE INTO THE TAHOE BASIN THIS MORNING WITH
  PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY
  MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 1 TO 2 FEET ABOVE 7000 FEET, WITH LOCALLY
  HIGHER AMOUNTS ALONG THE SIERRA CREST. 8 TO 14 INCHES AT LAKE
  LEVEL.

* TIMING: SNOW WILL MOVE INTO MONO COUNTY BY MIDDAY TODAY WITH A
  PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 1 TO 3 FEET ABOVE 7000 FEET WITH LOCALLY
  HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE ALONG THE SIERRA CREST. 10 TO 18
  INCHES FOR COMMUNITIES ALONG HIGHWAY 395 WITH UP TO 6 INCHES
  EAST OF HIGHWAY 395.

  AND NEVADA, FROM YUBA PASS TO EBBETTS PASS, INCLUDING THE LAKE
  TAHOE BASIN.

* AVALANCHE DANGER...HIGH IN ALL AREAS.

* REASON/IMPACTS...A FAST AND POWERFUL WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT
  OUR AREA STARTING THIS MORNING AND CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT.
  AVALANCHE HAZARD WILL QUICKLY RISE TO HIGH AS SNOWFALL RATES
  APPROACH 3 INCHES PER HOUR LATER THIS MORNING. WIND SLAB AND
  STORM SLAB AVALANCHE PROBLEMS WILL BE VERY LIKELY AT ALL
  ELEVATIONS THROUGHOUT THE REGION.
