One of Canada’s best freestyle skiers is saying farewell.
Canadian mogul skier Berkley Brown has announced her retirement from competitive skiing at 26 after spending 13 years competing at International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) competitions. With her retirement, she closes a career of representing Canada on some of mogul skiing’s biggest stages.
But more than her career accomplishments, Brown will be most remembered for the energy she brought to each event.
“Always fired up, always having fun, always bringing the good vibes to the crew,” Freestyle Canada Ski wrote in its announcement on Instagram. “That kind of presence is hard to replace. Thanks for the year, the laughs, and everything you brought to the Canadian team.”

The skier began her career with a series of strong finishes at events in her home country. She made her FIS debut at a FIS Freestyle event in Apex, Canada, where she placed 10th in a field of 24 at just 13 years old. A little over a year later at the same event, she reached the podium for the first time, claiming bronze. She also quickly found her footing in international competition, claiming bronze at the 2016 FIS Junior World Championships in Åre, Sweden.
One of her best seasons came in 2016-17, finishing in podium position in 11 of 14 races across Nor-Am Cup events, FIS Freestyle events, and National Championships. Brown claimed the Nor-Am Cup moguls overall title after collecting six podiums from eight competitions, including two victories. She also claimed two bronze medals from the 2017 National Championships and placed third twice at FIS Freestyle events.
Her performances early on in her career helped establish her as one of the best up-and-coming mogul skiers in Canada. They also helped propel her to make her first World Cup start, which came in Calgary in January 2018.
In total, Brown competed in 39 World Cups and recorded four top-10 finishes. Her best World Cup finish came on home snow at Val St. Come in January 2024. She placed eighth in moguls before topping that finish the following day with sixth place in dual moguls.
In addition to World Cups, Brown represented Canada at the 2023 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia. She finished 15th overall in moguls, making it to the finals round. She finished 20th overall in dual moguls.
“Across all levels of FIS competition, Brown finishes her career with 108 starts, 26 podiums and six victories,” FIS wrote in an article.
While Brown has not yet announced what is next, her retirement closes an unforgettable chapter competing at skiing’s highest level for more than a decade. With a Nor-Am title, a World Junior Championships medal, and the opportunity to represent Canada, Brown’s accomplishments throughout her career will be remembered for a long time in Canada’s freestyle skiing community.
