New Zealand’s Cardrona Alpine Resort Extends 2026 Ski Season by 1 Week

New Zealand’s Cardrona Alpine Resort is extending its 2026 ski season by a week, giving skiers and snowboarders until October 18 to chase spring turns. The Cardrona Alpine Resort season was originally scheduled to wrap up a week earlier, but the resort has announced it will now remain open through Sunday, October 18, 2026, citing strong snow levels and favorable late-season conditions.

The extension comes after what Cardrona describes as a strong run of late-season skiing in recent years, with consistent snow helping keep the mountain operating well into spring. “Spring’s biggest surprise?” Cardrona announced on social media. “Cardrona is staying open until 18 October.”

The resort said the decision also responds to one of the most common requests it receives from skiers and snowboarders: more days on the mountain. Cardrona and Treble Cone Chief Mountains Officer Laura Hedley said the additional week is a bonus for both local skiers and visitors. “We’ve had some great snow in the lead-up to spring, and extending the season by a week means more time on the mountain for everyone,” Hedley added. “It’s something our guests ask for every year, and we’re stoked to be able to offer it for them in 2026.”

The extension also comes with a range of spring deals designed to encourage skiers to make the most of the final weeks of the season. Cardrona is offering a Spring Multi-Day Pass from NZD 105 (USD 62) per day, allowing skiers to add several days of spring skiing at a reduced daily rate.

There are also spring offers for young skiers through the resort’s Ski Kindy program, along with a bus transport deal aimed at making access to the mountain easier during the final weeks of the season. “Pair that with our spring deals, and there’s never been a better time to get up here for one last hit of the season,” Hedley said.

Cardrona sits in the Southern Alps above Wānaka and Queenstown and is one of New Zealand’s most popular ski areas. Its relatively high elevation and extensive snowmaking network help it maintain reliable operations through the Southern Hemisphere winter and into spring.
