The Cirque Series mountain running race is set to return to Alta Ski Area on August 23, offering runners a high-alpine challenge through one of Utah’s most iconic landscapes. Founded by professional skier and Salt Lake City native Julian Carr, the Cirque Series has become a popular stop on the mountain running calendar, drawing athletes of all levels with its blend of technical terrain, steep climbs, and celebratory finish-line atmosphere. The Alta course, like others in the series, will begin at the ski area base and ascend thousands of feet to a nearby summit before descending back to the start.
The race distance is just under 8 miles, but the steep elevation gain and high-altitude terrain make it a demanding and scenic test. It is approachable but legit, with most runners finishing in under three hours. Title sponsor La Sportiva will be on-site during the event with gear demos, product giveaways, and athlete appearances. Participants can test out La Sportiva’s mountain running footwear on the rugged course.
The Alta event is the final Utah stop on the 2025 Cirque Series calendar. More information and registration details can be found at cirqueseries.com.
