Since 2009, skiers all around the great state of Colorado have been rocking the “Ski Country USA” license plate. With its mountainous backdrop and skier carving right down the middle, nothing says “I’m a skier” like sporting the license plate on the back of your car on the way to the mountain. But even with the little snowboarder grabbing method in the background, the single-board riders are feeling left out.
But now, there’s some good news for snowboarders. The Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame is leading a push for snowboarders to get their own dedicated license plate.
“Colorado is home to some of snowboarding’s biggest moments, legendary riders, and most influential brands,” the organization wrote in a Facebook post. “Now it’s time for Colorado to have a license plate that celebrates that history. We’re working to make a Colorado snowboard-themed license plate a reality, and we need your help!”
In order to make the dream a reality, the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame is looking to get 3,000 signatures on a petition by the end of the year. According to the petition, it is a necessary step in the legislative process for getting approval.
If all goes smoothly and a snowboard-focused license plate is approved, proceeds from license plate sales would be put towards the museum, helping it continue to preserve and celebrate the state’s snowsports history and legacy.
While the organization has not yet released a sample design for the plate, it plans on connecting with people and brands deeply connected to the state’s snowboarding culture for the artwork.
“Wondering what the plate will look like?” it asked in the post. “Artwork will be created in collaboration with Colorado Snowsports Hall of Famer Trent Bush and Evan Hecox, legendary Colorado-born artist and designer for brands like Twist, Burton, Chocolate Skateboards, Nike, Adidas, and Volkswagen, among many others.”
With a promising chance at getting their own license plate and the snow beginning to fall across Colorado, snowboarders in the state have a lot to be excited about right now. And with some of the best artists in the sport on the project, the plate is sure to be as eye-catching as the sport is.
Colorado snowboarders who want to support the cause can sign the petition at the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame website.
