Acclaimed contemporary artist Ed Ruscha will bring his iconic style to the slopes this winter as the featured artist for Aspen Snowmass’s 2025-26 lift ticket design, the resort announced Wednesday. The collaboration is part of Aspen One’s long-running Art in Unexpected Places (ArtUP) program, which showcases contemporary art on lift tickets, passes, and installations throughout the resort. Now in its 21st year, the program merges art and alpine experience—placing works by some of the world’s most recognized artists directly into the hands (and jacket pockets) of skiers and riders.
Ruscha, known for his innovative use of language, landscapes, and pop imagery, has been featured in leading global institutions including MoMA, the Guggenheim, and Tate Modern. His addition to the ArtUP program marks one of its most high-profile partnerships yet.
Aspen One CEO Dave Tanner called the collaboration “an honor,” emphasizing that Ruscha’s bold and thought-provoking work aligns with the company’s long-standing vision of fusing art, nature, and community. The lift ticket designs will debut when Aspen Snowmass opens for the 2025-26 ski season this November.

Ed Ruscha is a well-accomplished artist.
As art is also about symbolism, that an image of a gas station was chosen to appear on an Aspen lift ticket is a bit ironic: Fossil fuels threaten the existence of skiing.
