The Winter Olympics are less than six months away when they kick off on February 4, 2022, in Beijing, China. There are so many exciting topics to discuss before the games officially begin but it is important that we start with the basics and take a quick look at the venues in which the Winter Olympic events will take place. There are actually three separate locations in China that will host events during the games: Beijing, the Yanqing District, and the Xinjiang Province.

Yanqing District: 

  • Population: Approximately 289,000
  • Area: 769 Square Miles
  • Highest Elevation: Haituo Mountain 7352 Feet Above Sea Level
  • Average Winter Temperatures: 30°F/12°F
  • Olympic Events: Alpine Skiing, Bobsled, Luge, and Skeleton Events

Xinjiang Province: 

  • Population: 25 Million
  • Area: 620 Square Miles
  • Highest Elevation: K2 Mountain 28,251 Feet Above Sea Level
  • Average Winter Temperatures: 28°F/-4°F
  • Olympic Events: Freestyle, Cross Country, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined and the Biathlon
