Report from February 26, 2025
Yesterday was a powder day here in Italia.
We started the day with 2 lower mountain runs on the spectacular Skyway Monte Bianco.
Skyway was fun but the upper mountain was fogged-in and the lower mountain was deep dust-on-crust.
From there we hopped the fence over to Courmayeur ski resort and found good powder.
Then we found more.
And we kept finding it right until they closed the lifts at 4:30 pm.
A stupid fun day.
Run #1 was a deep chasm that slowly steepened until it was a legit chute then shockingly transitioned from playful powder to frozen avalanche death cookies without warning…
Still fun tho!
Run #2 was a sun-laden powder field with some deep turns that morphed into a powdered nose into a mini-chute to another mini-chute above a cliff.
That finally mini chute ended in a cliff and bad snow and spooked me a little.
Run #3 was pure gold.
Big open powder field at the top then a perfect powder chute that gradually got steeper until it offered up a voluntary exit air onto a singing apron of powder snow.
My heart was full.
I’d been waiting quite a while for another powder day here and it didn’t disappoint.
I love this place…
Our apres ski pizza at “Il Ristorantino” was pure gold and the pizziola had 4 pizzas out to us in about 10 minutes!
The combination of Courmayeur + Skyway is tough to beat.
Thanks, Italy!
