Report from February 18, 2025
We went in search of powder at Courmayeur ski resort in Italy yesterday.
Gondola to gondola to tram to sardine can.
The last tram, Arp, only fits 10 people!
It’s so cute…
From there we journeyed west on our search.
It hasn’t snowed in about a week and the wind got to a lot of the alpine powder turning it to stone but we knew there would be something soft out there somewhere in Courmayeur’s endless terrain.
The first zone we crossed had soft, warm powder and was crazy fun and beautiful.
But we weren’t satisfied…
The investigation continued.
Up and over and into a zone Marco had scoped with his drone the previous day.
He guided us to a chute we hoped would be soft.
The upper section was wind-blasted and firm.
The lower section held crusty old powder that skied pretty well if you kept your speed up.
Marco ripped it first and showed us how it was done.
I went after Marco and did my best to match his turns.
It was fun!
I smiled a lot.
Honestly, everything is just one big adventure for me here bouncing around in big, exciting terrain beneath the towers of the Monte Bianco (Mount Blanc) Massif.
This place is amazing.
The real reason I’m here is that they have a deep base this year.
It’s a trip skiing back to the lifts past the summer homes with 6′ of snow on their rooves.
Grazie, Italia!
