Crankworx Whistler 2017: Photos, Videos, and Results

Whistler Village, Crankworx 2017.

August 11-20th, 2017 was Crankworx Whistler, the biggest bike festival in the world. Taking place at the top Bike Park in the world. all of the biggest pros were there along with most major bike companies. There were over 10 events taking place over the week but here were a couple of my favorites:

Whip- Off World Championships

This event gets wild. The most stylish riders in the world go head to head in a jam-style format with judges. This session takes place on Crabapple Hits, 2 of which are over 50 feet long. My highlight of the week was being in a practice whip train with a few defending champions of past years. Here is a highlight video courtesy of Pinkbike:

Joyride Slopestyle

Slopestyle course construction.

The most spectator-friendly event, the Joyride Slopestyle took place near the end of Crankworx. Riders were doing their best trick variations which included 720’s, double backflips, and a new trick called the “cashroll” Brandon Semenuk had not done any of the other Freeride Mountain Bike World tour events, so he was to drop first. Well, apparently he has been filming video parts and practicing a bit, because he put down one hell of a run.

Trail Report:

  • There is a new “Money Booter” at the bottom of A-line replacing the GLC drops. Lip Height is over 10 feet and it is a fun one.
  • The new Oakley Hip at the end of Original Sin was built last summer and it is awesome. This one is lofty as well, and is a blind left hip.
  • Rumor has it there is a fun new trail opening on Creekside soon.
