January has been kind to Crested Butte, CO with Old Man Winter delivering five feet of snow to Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s slopes. Following the resort’s opening of the High Lift and North Face Lift earlier this month, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) is excited to announce additional terrain openings throughout the resort’s famed Extreme Limits terrain.
- Crested Butte Mountain Resort continues to expand terrain offerings with the seasonal openings of Spellbound and Phoenix Bowls, Staircase, Forest and Peel among other runs.
- Terrain openings increase open skiable terrain to 1,420 total acres across 113 open trails.
Crested Butte Mountain Resort has opened up inbounds extreme terrain including Spellbound and Phoenix Bowls, High Life and Staircase accessible off of the North Face Lift, and Forest, Peel, and Flatiron on the west side of the mountain underneath the resort’s iconic namesake peak. The opening of these areas increases CBMR’s open ski and snowboard terrain to 1,420 acres over 113 trails accessed by all 14 lifts.
“The recent snowfall in January was just what our ski patrol and mountain operations teams needed to expand our open skiable terrain,” says Tim Baker, general manager of CBMR. “Crested Butte’s Extreme Limits terrain is unlike any other inbounds terrain and I look forward to welcoming Epic Pass holders to experience it for themselves.”
Season-to-date, CBMR has received just 152″ of snow. The deep snowpack (currently 56″ base) continues to provide powder and packed powder conditions around the mountain. In addition to offering 77 percent of inbounds extreme terrain, CBMR is also boasting 59 groomed trails for beginner and intermediate skiers and riders.

The mountain operations and ski patrol teams will continue to monitor the snowpack in an effort to prepare for additional terrain openings. Skiers and riders are encouraged to stay tuned to the resort’s website for snow and terrain updates: www.skicb.com/snow.
All guests are reminded that they must observe all posted signs, closures and slow zones. Closed trails may contain hazards due to early snow coverage. Accessing closed terrain is a violation of the Colorado Ski Safety Act and will result in the loss of skiing privileges and could involve prosecution and a fine.
