Mammoth Mountain, California, began scaling back its lift network Monday, closing Eagle Lodge and a series of chairs for the remainder of the 2025–26 season while confirming the resort remains on course to ski through Memorial Day.

Effective March 30, the resort closed Chairs 7, 20, 22, and 25, along with Cloud Nine Express (Chair 9) and Eagle Express (Chair 15). Snowmobile Adventures, Tubing at Woolly’s Adventure Summit, and the Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center also closed for the season. Mid- and upper-mountain terrain, the resort said, continues to ride well.

The Memorial Day target aligns with Mammoth’s broader “Second Season” plans, which the resort confirmed in late February, following more than seven feet of snow that month. Mammoth, California’s highest resort at 11,053 feet, boasts 3,500 skiable acres. Its elevation protects against a fading snowpack, maintaining cold temperatures and snow cover even as lower areas have thawed.

Mammoth averages around 400 inches of snow per season, and the year-to-date total is currently 244 inches. It currently has a 38″ snowpack at MainLodge, 46% of average for this point of the season. A Memorial Day closing date would give Mammoth 187 days of operation this season. Last season, despite receiving only 286 inches of snow, Mammoth remained open for skiing until June 15, operating for 213 days.

The resort still offers more than 2,000 acres of terrain and over 120 trails. Canyon and Eagle Lodges are scheduled to close after April 19, with all lift access consolidating to Main Lodge beginning April 20. In late April or early May, operating hours are set to shift to 7:30 a.m.–2 p.m. to take advantage of firmer morning conditions before afternoon heat softens the snow.

Many other California resorts have already closed or moved up their closing dates this spring as warming temperatures and a saturated snowpack have accelerated season-end conditions across the state. Mammoth and Palisades Tahoe remain among the few still targeting Memorial Day, though both carry a conditions-dependent caveat.
