Fresh snow blanketed Arapahoe Basin on Tuesday morning, giving Colorado skiers and riders an early taste of winter as the resort eyes the start of its 2025-26 season. Photos and videos shared by the resort show coverage reaching all the way to the base area after the September 17 storm. While the snowfall is not enough to set an opening date, officials said it provided a boost of excitement for the coming months.
“Our snowmaking team has already prepped the equipment and rolled the snow guns onto the hill,” the resort wrote in an email correspondence with SnowBrains. “They’re ready to start testing whenever the weather windows arrive.” Snowmaking typically begins in early to mid-October, but the timing depends on temperatures and conditions.
A-Basin has not yet announced when lifts will start spinning, only that opening day will come “as soon as possible” once conditions allow.

For visitors not quite ready to put away their hiking boots, the resort still has summer operations running through this weekend, September 21. Events include Oktoberfest celebrations and a disc golf tournament. Hiking, biking, and free disc golf at higher elevations will remain available until snowmaking ramps up.
Nestled atop Loveland Pass, A-Basin is known for its long season and early openings, often beating other Colorado resorts to first turns. With snow now on the ground, anticipation is building that another winter is just around the corner.
