Eileen Gu Wins First Halfpipe Competition Since Gold Medal Run in Beijing

Last year’s Olympic Gold Medalist in Halfpipe, Eileen Gu, took first place at the FIS World Cup last week. The event was held at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta. With a score of 90 in her first run and 95 in her second, Gu skied the halfpipe with incredible style and finesse. The performance was enough to put her atop the podium, her first gold medal since being honored at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.

Gu has put together an incredible resume at a very young age, and she’s far from finished stacking up the medals. She also earned a Silver Medal in Slopestyle at last year’s Olympic games, another huge accolade for the 19-year-old phenom. Aside from her Olympic success, she has earned two gold medals in SuperPipe and Slopestyle and a bronze medal in Big Air at X Games 2021. This made her the first rookie to snag a gold medal in Women’s Ski SuperPipe and the first to medal in three events. On top of these lofty achievements, she is the first woman to land a forward double cork 1440 in competition history. With so many landmark achievements under her belt after another fantastic performance to start 2023, it’s safe to say Eileen Gu has a long and illustrious skiing career ahead of her!
