Lucy Westlake, 18, has become the youngest American woman to successfully summit Mount Everest. She reached the summit early on Thursday, 12th May 2022.

“The expedition took 26 days, but every single step was worth it. Looking up at the summit from Camp 4 the day before our summit push, it truly looked impossible, but that night at 9 pm we began our climb, and 8.5 hours later, we did it!! I still can’t really believe it.”

Naperville North High School student Westlake has always loved hiking and the outdoors and has been climbing mountains ever since she could walk, reports. She currently holds the record for the youngest female to summit the 50 US states’ highest peaks.

She hopes that her latest adventure will inspire other young girls to pursue their own adventures.

Her conquest comes during a season of many new records on Everest. Kami Rita Sherpa summited Everest for a record 26th time, a US-based woman summited for a record-breaking tenth time, and the first all-black expedition summited last week.
