The ski season has begun across parts of the United States and many winter enthusiasts are anxiously waiting for their hometown mountain to announce its opening day. November is typically the period when resorts open that are located in geographical regions favorable to early season cold weather. Most resorts, however, open sometime during December when Mother Nature usually drops temperatures enough for natural snow to fall or to allow snowmaking to begin. Today, Seven Springs Ski Resort which is located about an hour east of Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania, received two inches of snow thanks to Mother Nature. It is the first ski resort in Pennsylvania to receive snow this season. Seven Springs posted on its Facebook page photos of the snowfall, stating:
“We like what we see! About 2 inches or more in spots around the mountain and it just keeps coming! We need a bit more snow before we can open the slopes, but it won’t be long!”
When asked about a potential date for Seven Springs’ opening day, Anna Weltz, Senior Communications Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Region for Vail Resorts, wrote in an email:
“The first snow of the season is always exciting and invigorating. Our resort team is pumped up and can’t wait to welcome back our guests. In the meantime, we will be keeping a close eye on the forecast and will be ready to fire up snowmaking when conditions permit.”
There is no set date for when Seven Springs will open for the season, but Weltz said that announcement would come about a week before opening.
