Yes, Hakuba is the place in Japan with the big, nasty mountains.  The place where Jeremy Jones spent a month in his movie “Further.”  Jeremy doesn’t go places that suck.  Period.

Hakuba is one helluva place to ski because it has the lull-you-to-sleep mellow tree skiing that will all love juxtaposed against some of the gnarliest mountains you’ve ever seen.

And yes, you should go there this year.
