The worldโs top alpine ski racers will converge in Sun Valley, Idaho, this month for the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals, marking the exciting conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Following the official positive snow control announcement on March 9, FIS has confirmed that the event will proceed as scheduled from March 20 to 27, thanks to excellent snow conditions and the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
Athletes will compete for the coveted season Crystal globes across Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom, with only the top-ranked skiers from the 2024-25 season earning a place at the start gate. The Finals are restricted to the top 25 competitors in each discipline, the current Junior World Champion in the respective discipline, as well as any athlete who has scored over 500 World Cup points across all disciplines. While Mikaela Shiffrin, the winningest skier in Alpine World Cup history, did not qualify for the Giant Slalom following her traumatic crash at the beginning of the season, she will compete in the Slalom, an event where she has dominated for over a decade.
The competitions will unfold on Bald Mountain, with free spectator viewing available at the base area and select zones along the course. Beyond the races, fans can expect a festival atmosphere at Warm Springs Base, Sun Valley Village, and the town of Ketchum, with live music, aprรจs-ski events, and unique Western traditions. The Opening Ceremony and Downhill Bib Draw will take place on March 21 at the Sun Valley Ice Rink, setting the stage for the competition with DJ Mix Master Mike providing the entertainment.
