FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, ID, Set to Begin Next Week After Positive Snow Control

The world’s top alpine ski racers will converge in Sun Valley, Idaho, this month for the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals, marking the exciting conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Following the official positive snow control announcement on March 9, FIS has confirmed that the event will proceed as scheduled from March 20 to 27, thanks to excellent snow conditions and the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

Athletes will compete for the coveted season Crystal globes across Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom, with only the top-ranked skiers from the 2024-25 season earning a place at the start gate. The Finals are restricted to the top 25 competitors in each discipline, the current Junior World Champion in the respective discipline, as well as any athlete who has scored over 500 World Cup points across all disciplines. While Mikaela Shiffrin, the winningest skier in Alpine World Cup history, did not qualify for the Giant Slalom following her traumatic crash at the beginning of the season, she will compete in the Slalom, an event where she has dominated for over a decade.

The competitions will unfold on Bald Mountain, with free spectator viewing available at the base area and select zones along the course. Beyond the races, fans can expect a festival atmosphere at Warm Springs Base, Sun Valley Village, and the town of Ketchum, with live music, après-ski events, and unique Western traditions. The Opening Ceremony and Downhill Bib Draw will take place on March 21 at the Sun Valley Ice Rink, setting the stage for the competition with DJ Mix Master Mike providing the entertainment.

March 20 – Thursday

One of the most anticipated side events is Sun Valley’s Wild West Skijoring Invitational on March 24, where horseback riders pull skiers through a challenging obstacle course in a high-adrenaline fusion of winter sports and frontier tradition. Après-ski celebrations will be in full swing daily, featuring performances from artists such as Paul Oakenfold, DJ Logic, 220 Kid, G Love, and Switchfoot. The Vendor Village at Warm Springs Base will showcase exhibitors, gear demos, and brand activations from major ski industry players. With world-class racing and vibrant off-hill entertainment, Sun Valley is set to deliver a spectacular conclusion to the alpine skiing season.

The evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with some local Idaho flair, including fun surprises from event sponsor, Idaho Potato Commission, building up to the suspenseful Bib Draw from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., before transitioning into an unforgettable hour of music from 220 Kid from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a firework finale.
