Long before Jackson became a year-round destination with polished lodges and global name recognition, Snake River Brewing was already there. Since opening in 1994, the Brewpub has quietly earned its place as one of the town’s original après-ski gathering spots, a place where cold fingers warmed up around pint glasses and powder days were replayed one story at a time.

Snake River Brewing holds a rare distinction. It is Wyoming’s oldest craft brewery and the most award-winning small craft brewery in America. But those accolades only tell part of the story. What has kept people coming back for more than three decades is the role the Brewpub plays in Jackson’s daily rhythm, especially in winter.

Where Jackson’s Après Culture Took Shape

Après at Snake River Brewing isn’t a concept that was added later. It has been part of the culture from the start. From its beginning, the Brewpub became one of Jackson’s original apres-ski gathering spots for ski bums, locals, and powder chasers making their way through the Tetons. You finished your last lap at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, peeled off damp layers, and headed straight there. No reservation needed. Just a seat, a beer, and a familiar buzz in the room.

That atmosphere still defines the place today. On winter afternoons, you’ll find steaming gear lined near the door, jackets draped over chairs, and that unmistakable hum of conversation that comes when everyone’s day revolved around a great day on the mountain. Powder totals get debated. Lines get exaggerated. New faces blend in with locals who have been stopping by for years. It’s never felt exclusive, and that’s part of the appeal.

The Taproom Experience

While the heart of Snake River Brewing is the taproom, the beer has always mattered. It is made from some of the cleanest water in the world, sourced from the headwaters of the Snake River and snowmelt from the Teton Mountains. The brewery has built its reputation on quality, consistency, and a willingness to innovate without chasing trends for their own sake. That balance between reliability and creativity has helped the brewery rack up awards over the years, earning national recognition while staying grounded in its home market. Not only does the brewpub serve the freshest beer in Jackson, but it also distributes its products regionally outside of Wyoming to Montana, Idaho, and Colorado.

The goal has never been to outgrow Jackson, but to serve it well. That mindset shows up in the way the Brewpub operates, from the food menu built to match a long day outside, to the staff who understand that après can mean different things depending on who just walked through the door.

All the beer is brewed and canned at the brewpub, and the drafts are as fresh as you can find anywhere. The Brewpub’s core beers showcase both range and character, led by Jenny Lake Lager, a longtime staple and malt-forward Vienna-style lager crafted from rich German malts and featuring an easy, balanced finish that complements a day on the hill perfectly. Earned It IPA has become a modern favorite, a New England–style IPA that delivers bright citrus and stone fruit with little bitterness, earning praise from East Coast transplants who swear it holds its own. For those who like things louder, Pako’s IPA is an unapologetic West Coast IPA named after the brewery’s canine mascot, delivering a punchy Simcoe-and-Mosaic profile with a loyal following. Other quality choices include La Cerveza, a Mexican-style lager, Snake River Pale Ale, and Grand Foghee, a hazy pale ale brewed in collaboration with Grand Targhee Mountain Resort, reinforcing the brewery’s well-rounded approach to classic and modern styles.

A Constant in a Changing Town

What’s remarkable is how little the core experience has changed. The room still feels like a crossroads, where locals mix with visitors, lift operators sit next to first-timers, and winter regulars mark the season one pint at a time. The Brewpub doesn’t try to manufacture nostalgia. It simply carries it forward, day after day, season after season.

In a town that has evolved quickly as a must-visit destination, Snake River Brewing remains a constant. It’s the place people remember from their first ski trip to Jackson and the place they seek out when they come back years later. After more than 30 years, it’s still where the day ends, the stories start, and the après culture that helped define Jackson remains very much alive.
