Free Skiing Mother’s Day: Black Mountain’s Gift to Ski Moms

Black Mountain, in New Hampshire, is offering free skiing on Mother’s Day for every mom who wants to hit the slopes on their special day. In a press release, Erik Morgensen, President and General Manager of Black Mountain, wrote a heartfelt message to his mother and all the moms out there, thanking them for everything they have done.

“Thank you for buying us one-piece snow suits, ski swap gear, and our lift tickets. And thank you for buying most of it again when we quickly outgrew, lost, or forgot the stuff you just bought us. Thank you for putting us in ski school, even though Dad said he could teach us for free. Thank you for picking us up early from ski school. The end-of-the-day laps with just us will always be the best runs of the day,” Erik Morgensen, President and General Manager of Black Mountain, wrote in a press release.

One of the Last Ski Resorts Still Open in the East

The ski resort is one of three ski resorts still open in the East, along with Killington and Jay Peak in Vermont. Skiing on Mother’s Day is special for moms and their children to hit the slopes together. “As a thank you, we will be offering free skiing to all moms this Mother’s Day. Thanks for being here, and thank you, Mom, for putting us on skis,” Morgensen wrote in the press release.

A Love Letter From Black Mountain’s GM to Every Ski Mom

Mother’s Day is all about thanking moms for all the things they do for their children when they were too young to understand the sacrifices they made.

“Thank you for making sure we always had breakfast early enough to get a good parking spot. Thank you for reminding us to eat lunch. Thank you for always having snacks in your pocket so we could eat on the lift and keep charging. Thank you for teaching us to pizza when all we wanted were French fries. Thank you for telling us to turn. Thank you for picking us up when we did not turn. Thank you for making us ski tree runs so that we were forced to turn. Thank you for the hugs in the lodge, on the lift, and in the car on the way home. Thank you for being the best part of skiing,” Morgensen added.

Free Skiing Mother’s Day: What We Know About Black Mountain’s Season End

Currently, there has been no announcement for how long the ski resort will remain open for the 2025-26 season. However, in the press release, Black Mountain wrote that a full Letter From The GM about closing date information and event details would be given next week.

Black Mountain has become one of the most compelling stories in American skiing. A historic New Hampshire hill that nearly disappeared, brought back to life under new ownership, and now leading by example with exactly the kind of community spirit that makes independent ski areas worth fighting for. Offering free skiing on Mother’s Day is a small gesture in the grand scheme, but it’s entirely in character for a mountain that has spent the last two seasons proving that skiing can still be personal, affordable, and rooted in something real. Whether you’re a mom buckling up boots for the first time in years or a family squeezing out the last turns of a long spring season, Black Mountain is making the case that the best days on the hill aren’t always the biggest ones.
