The Freeride World Tour has officially canceled the Georgia Pro, citing unsafe snowpack conditions at the planned competition venue in Mestia. In a statement released February 20, the FIS Freeride World Tour by Peak Performance said the decision followed “extensive evaluation” by officials, mountain safety teams, and local experts. Organizers determined that current conditions could not meet the standards required to safely hold the event.

“Current conditions do not meet the standards required to ensure athlete and staff safety,” the tour said. “Multiple venue and scheduling options were carefully assessed before reaching this decision, and the structural instability observed would not sufficiently improve within the available window.”

The Georgia Pro was scheduled as the third stop of the 2026 FWT season. Mestia, located in the Caucasus Mountains, has become a prominent freeride venue in recent years, known for its steep terrain and deep snowpack, but also for complex avalanche conditions.

FWT organizers emphasized that safety and competitive fairness were the driving factors behind the cancellation. “As always, safety and fair competition remain our top priorities,” the organization said.

The tour is now evaluating whether the canceled event can be rescheduled during the weather window for the upcoming Fieberbrunn Pro in Austria. No final decision has been announced.

The FWT also thanked the local organizing committee, the community in Georgia, and fans for their support in the press release, adding that they “look forward to returning to Georgia next season.”
