Australia’s slow-starting ski season received another small but encouraging boost overnight, with fresh snow dusting the slopes at Thredbo Resort, Australia, on Saturday morning, June 20, 2026. The snowfall was modest — more of a dusting than a storm cycle — but after weeks of warm temperatures, rain, and delayed openings across much of the Australian Alps, any natural snow is a welcome sight. Photos shared with SnowBrains by Thredbo Resort show a fresh coating of white across the resort’s upper mountain, adding a distinctly more wintery feel to the landscape.
The snowfall arrived as a cold front moved across southeastern Australia. While totals were limited, temperatures have finally dropped below freezing, allowing snowmaking crews to continue building base depths after a challenging start to the season.
According to the latest SnowBrains forecast, the current storm cycle is expected to deliver around 2-3 centimeters (1 inch) of snowfall to Thredbo Village through Monday, with larger accumulations of around 10-20 centimeters (4-8 inches) favoring higher-elevation at Thredbo and other resorts such as Charlotte Pass, Perisher, Falls Creek, and Mount Hotham.

Likewise, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is forecasting additional snow showers through Sunday before skies gradually clear early next week. Temperatures are expected to remain cold enough for overnight snowmaking through Monday and Tuesday, giving resorts a valuable opportunity to strengthen their bases.
It is not the powder day Australian skiers and snowboarders have been waiting for, but after a slow start to the ski season in the first two weeks of the early ski season in Australia, the sight of fresh snow falling once again is a welcome sight for every winter sports fan downunder.
