Monoskiing ninjas trying to steal the secrets of skiing from rebel snowboarders? Welcome to Apocalypse Snow, one part 80’s insanity, one part O.G. snowboarding, one part ripping mono-skiing. Yes, its 24 minutes, but thats 24 minutes of some of the best 80’s (mono) skiing and snowboarding. For your Friday enjoyment here is apocalypse snow in its entirety! Grab a beer, watch this, and think about how far thing have come. This film brought the snowboarding craze to Europe.

For those who have never seen the film, it is epic. It features some of the best mono skiing from what must have been the golden age, 1983. Think of the main character as something like a pre-saucer boy saucer boy, but with a snowboard.

Apocalypse Snow was the idea of Didier Lafond and was filmed in Les Arcs, France.

Seriously, watch the film, it is worth it! Here are some highlights:

  • Zorb ninja chasing a snowboarder
  • Skiblade hookup from rebel babe & heli lift (wait, what?)
  • Rocket monoski!
  • Big drops on monoskis
  • Skiing canadian style and ripping out giant pockets of sluff
  • Hang gliding
  • Blower soul turns
  • Road gap session
  • More 80’s nostalgia than you can shake two poles at
