On June 17, Indy Pass introduced the “Indy License Plate Club,” which gives skiers and snowboarders a chance to score a free Indy+ Pass. The promotion is built on the premise that a person personalizes their license plate with an “Indy Pass” message, and they would receive a free Indy+ Pass for each season the plate is active. “All devotees of the Indy Revolution are encouraged to apply for the club,” Indy Pass wrote on its website when announcing the club.
There are no guarantees that a company or business running a promotion will be successful. However, the incredible wave of support from people all over the country for the Indy Pass and the Indy License Plate Club has been a marketing director’s dream come true. From California, Utah, Virginia, Michigan, Vermont, and everywhere in between, people are switching their license plates to promote the Indy Pass.
Indy Pass is rooted in the belief that when people unite around something they love and believe in, good things happen. For fans of the Indy Pass and the growing movement toward independent ski resorts, there’s now a new way to show your support and get rewarded for it. Enter the Indy License Plate Club, an offbeat, fun initiative that gives you a chance to earn a free Indy+ Pass just by sporting the right vanity plate on your car.

For skiers and snowboarders interested in joining the Indy License Plate Club, Indy Pass has made it easy. A person must customize their license plate to promote the spirit of the Indy Pass with a play on letters like “SKI INDY,” “INDY PASS,” or something else clever. As long as the vanity plate creatively supports the Indy Pass and skiing in general and remains valid, the person will be eligible for a free Indy+ Pass every season the plate is on the road. Check with Indy Pass before purchasing the plate to ensure the plate and the wording on the plate will be accepted.
What’s special about this promotion is that it is not a one-and-done type of deal. As long as the plate remains active and meets the criteria, the person will continue to receive an Indy+ Pass each year. That’s a lot of free skiing and riding for doing something a lot of people probably wanted to do, anyway.
Each state has its own rules and fees for personalized plates, and the cost of getting a customized plate for a vehicle varies. Arizona ranks as one of the lowest-cost states for personalized license plates, with an initial application fee of $25 and an annual renewal fee of $25 thereafter. In New Jersey, you can personalize your license plates for a one-time payment of just $50. Generally, personalized or vanity plates (those with a unique combination of letters and numbers) have an initial fee, typically ranging from $25 to $50, and may also incur annual renewal fees. Considering the Indy Pass costs $369, opting for a personalized license plate is the more cost-effective choice.
Joining the Indy License Plate Club is easy:
1. Purchase a vanity license plate with relevant wording, e.g., “Ski Indy”, “Indy Pass”, or something else.
2. Slap an Indy Pass sticker somewhere near the plate, to really sell the dream.
3. Email a photo of both the new license plate and active registration to info@indyskipass.com, and Indy Pass will provide you with an Indy+ Pass for the upcoming or current season. For bonus points, post a photo of your plate in the Indy Passholder Group on Facebook to show it off. This offer is valid for the duration of your plate, as long as the registration is active.
Wording must be relevant to both Indy Pass and skiing. For example, Indy Pass will not accept “Indy 500.” If you’re unsure of your proposed vanity plate wording, please email Indy Pass at info@indyskipass.com, and they will review it to make sure it qualifies before you purchase the license plate. Indy Pass withholds the sole choice in whether a free pass is awarded or not based on creativity.
