Galdhøpiggen Sommerskisenter in Norway opens for summer skiing today, May 9. The Norwegian resort is located on top of Scandinavia’s highest mountain, Galdhøppigen, which reaches an altitude of 8,098 feet (2,469 meters). The clear, green glacial water beautifully contrasts the surrounding permafrost landscape.
Galdhøppigen Summer Ski Center is one of only six summer-only ski resorts or areas in the world. The skiable area at ‘Juvass,’ boasts 3.1 miles (5 km) of groomed slopes from 6,069 feet (1,850 meters) at the valley in Juvbreen to a lifted altitude of 7,368 feet (2,246 meters).
Galdhøppigen Sommerskisenter is the highest ski area in Scandinavia and is on a glacier. The resort’s T-bar is secured to the ice, which is in constant movement down towards Juvvatnet.
The ski lift will be operating from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the access road to and from the resort will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day. Please be aware, opening times may vary depending on conditions so please check before traveling.
This year the season at Galdhøppigen goes from May 9 until November 5, 2024.
