Did you know that it was recently the 150th-anniversary of the birth of the Golden Retriever? Well it was, and 361 of the dogs were out in full force celebrating with a big ol’ party in Tomich, Scotland. People traveled from all over the world with their pooches to attend the celebration.

Ashleigh Baird, who was there with her dog Chewbacca and his best pal Buddy, told LADbible that the event was marking the 150 year anniversary since the birth of Golden Retrievers – something that is thought to have come about in 1868 after a breeding experiment by Lord Tweedmouth.

She explained: “I believe he crossed a wavy haired retriever with a golden spaniel – and hey presto! Golden Retrievers were born.”

The event took place at Guisachan House, the ancestral home of the Golden Retriever. According to the Friends of Guisachan House website, in 1868, Nous, a Wavy-Coated Retriever, and Belle, a Tweed Water Spaniel were bred together by Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks – later known as Lord Tweedmouth.

Ashleigh added: “It was a fantastic day, lovely to see all the Goldens playing and having fun together. We tried to pet and cuddle all 361 goldens and it was heaven.”
