Gus Kenworthy is mourning the loss of his dog, who died last Thursday. Kenworthy, an Olympic skier who took home the silver medal in slopestyle at the 2014 games, and his boyfriend, Matthew Wilkas, adopted the pooch after rescuing her from a Korean meat farm earlier this year at this year’s games in PyeongChang.
“Two days ago my beautiful baby Beemo passed away,” Kenworthy wrote late Saturday night in an emotional letter posted to Instagram. “It was completely unexpected and Matt and I are beside ourselves trying to cope with her loss.”
Evidently, Beemo’s lungs depreciated and her heart swelled due to a congenital condition, as revealed by a visit to the veterinarian:
“[A veterinarian] said that she’d been living on ‘borrowed time’ from the get go,” Kenworthy wrote. “Beemo was truly the best thing that ever happened to me and I feel so fortunate for our borrowed time together.”
Thanks for printing this this very emotional story. I love dogs.
