Haley Joel Osment, the actor who rose to fame as a child in โThe Sixth Sense,โ was arrested on April 8 at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in California for alleged public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance, authorities confirmed this week. The 37-year-old was taken into custody after police responded to reports of โunruly conductโ in the Mill Base Lodge parking lot, where ski patrol had detained him until officers arrived around 2 p.m. local time.
Police stated the unidentified substance found is presumed to be cocaine, though lab results are pending. Osment was booked and released shortly after the incident. The Mono County District Attorneyโs Office has not yet decided whether to file formal charges, and the case remains under investigation. The arrest can be seen in the video below.
This arrest comes during a challenging period for Osment, who recently lost his home in the Eaton Fire earlier this year and has reportedly faced difficulties with insurance claims after the disaster. Sources close to the actor say the aftermath of the wildfire has weighed heavily on him, compounding personal and professional setbacks.
Osmentโs legal history includes a 2006 conviction for driving under the influence and marijuana possession after a car accident in Los Angeles, for which he received probation and was required to complete an alcohol rehabilitation program. In 2018, police were called to address a public altercation involving Osment at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.
Despite these challenges, Osment has remained active in the entertainment industry. He recently appeared in Zoรซ Kravitzโs directorial debut, โBlink Twice,โ and is set for a role in the upcoming season of Netflixโs โWednesday.โ He also joined the cast of โPoker Faceโ Season Two, premiering in May.
Osmentโs early career was marked by critical acclaim, including an Academy Award nomination at age 11 for his performance in โThe Sixth Sense.โ He starred in โPay It Forwardโ and Steven Spielbergโs โA.I. Artificial Intelligence,โ among other notable projects.
Representatives for Osment have not commented on the recent arrest. The Mono County District Attorney’s Office will determine the outcome of the investigation and potential charges in the coming weeks.
