Heavenly Mountain Resort is now offering year-round childcare for its employees, the South Lake Tahoe community, and visiting guests. The resort will include dedicated spaces for employees and community members with a total of 44 spaces available in the program. There will be 12 infant or toddler spaces and 32 tailored for preschool children. “As members of the community, we know that childcare is a critical need for families in South Lake Tahoe, and we want to be part of the solution,” Shaydar Edelmann said, vice president and general manager of Heavenly Mountain Resort. “We are thrilled to expand our childcare program and utilize our facilities to support our employees and the broader community.”
Childcare services will continue throughout the summer on Monday through Friday, and seven days a week during the ski season. Ski and play will be offered for children aged 3 to 4 for a full day. Although Heavenly does not provide a specific half-day ski and play option through its childcare services, a comparable option could be a half-day lesson through its ski and ride program, according to Cole Zimmerman, Senior Manager of Communications, Vail Resorts for the Tahoe Region.
Prices for the childcare will decrease for Heavenly’s employees during the winter season, and remain consistent for its community guests year-round. Employee pricing for the winter season for infants and toddlers is $41 per day and preschool is $26 per day. During the non-winter season, employee pricing for infants and toddlers is $65 per day, and preschool is $50 per day. The community rate for all seasons for infants and toddlers is $80 per day, and preschool is $65 per day. A one-month minimum commitment is required for the community rate.
Heavenly Day Care is a licensed child care center with professionally trained staff that provides quality care for the children. The staff provides care for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years old, with an optional ski component for children ages 3 and 4 years old. The Heavenly Day Car program is designed as a play-based, safe, and fun-filled environment for children to enjoy, so that the entire family can have an experience of a lifetime out on the snow. “We’re so excited to expand our calendar to support families in our community year-round,” Cassidy Simpson, Heavenly’s childcare manager, said. “Safety and quality care are our top priority, and our team takes a ton of pride in what we do. We are committed to providing an enriching experience with age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, science experiments, music activities, and outdoor play.”
Heavenly is owned by Vail Resorts, and its childcare is part of a larger program offered at other Vail-owned resorts. Recruiting and retaining good employees is a challenge in any industry, and the ski resorts are doing their best to attract quality candidates. Vail has been working to be part of the solution by piloting childcare services at several of its resorts, including Vail Mountain, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, and Okemo. “Childcare is a critical need, not just for our mountain communities, but across the United States. We also directly support childcare services and critical needs in our mountain communities through direct grants,” Vail Resorts wrote on its website.
