A Strong Winter Storm is expected to impact California. The Nation Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning Through 10pm Tonight. 1-2 FEET of snow is expected to fall.

The impacts of this storm include:

  • 1-2 FEET of Snow
  • Over 120 MPH Winds
  • 3-6 FOOT Waves On Lake Tahoe
  • Difficult Travel For An Extended Period of Time
  • Prolonged Atmospheric River Event

California is expected to see MASSIVE precipitation totals throughout the next 7 days, along with a good amount of snow. This storm is expected to deliver plenty of snow, along with a lot of rain.

GREATER LAKE TAHOE AREA-MONO COUNTY-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, TRUCKEE, BRIDGEPORT,
MAMMOTH LAKES, STATELINE, AND INCLINE VILLAGE

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM PST THIS
EVENING...

* TIMING: SNOW WILL CONTINUE AND WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES OVERNIGHT
  THROUGH MONDAY EVENING. STRONG WINDS WILL CONTINUE IN ALL
  LOCATIONS WITH DANGEROUS WHITEOUT CONDITIONS ALONG THE RIDGES
  AND IN THE BACK COUNTRY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: UP TO 3 INCHES NEAR TRUCKEE, 2 TO 4 INCHES
  FOR LAKE TAHOE, 1 TO 2 FEET ALONG THE SIERRA CREST FROM DONNER
  PASS TO MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN, 5 TO 10 INCHES IN MAMMOTH LAKES, AND 2
  TO 4 INCHES ALONG HIGHWAY 395 IN MONO COUNTY.

* WINDS: STRONG WINDS WILL ACCOMPANY THIS STORM. SOUTH TO
  SOUTHWEST WINDS GUSTING 50 TO 60 MPH ARE LIKELY IN VALLEYS.
  WIND PRONE AREAS SUCH AS HIGHWAY 395 NEAR MAMMOTH AIRPORT
  AND MONO LAKE COULD SEE GUSTS TO 70 MPH. RIDGES WILL SEE
  GUSTS OVER 120 MPH.

* SNOW LEVELS: VARYING BETWEEN 6000 AND 6500 FEET. THIS COULD
  IMPACT HOW MUCH SNOWFALL OCCURS FOR COMMUNITIES SUCH AS TRUCKEE
  AND AROUND LAKE TAHOE. AS A RESULT, SNOWFALL FORECASTS FOR THESE
  AREAS ARE LOWER THAN AVERAGE CONFIDENCE.

* IMPACTS: HIGH CONFIDENCE IN DISRUPTIONS TO TRAVEL DUE TO SNOW
  AND WIND FOR THE PASSES AND ALONG HIGHWAY 395 THROUGH MONO
  COUNTY. PLAN FOR DELAYS AND CHAIN RESTRICTIONS. VERY ROUGH
  WATERS EXPECTED ON LAKE TAHOE WITH WAVE HEIGHTS OF 3 TO 6 FEET.

  1. I was commenting on another site that the snow levels this winter have been crazy high. We’ve always had rain events here at Tahoe, but i really don’t recall having such high levels so many times during the winter.
