It may have been officially still summer, but winter came early to the Alps this weekend as many areas saw significant snowfall.
Higher elevation ski resorts in the Alps received 2-8″, with the biggest reported snowfalls being more than a foot. Glacier 3000, in Gstaad, Switzerland, reported almost 16″.
A number of glacier ski areas are already open for skiing. Zermatt and Saas-Fee in Switzerland both have lifts running.
Hintertux, Austria’s only 365-day a year resort is open, as is Passo Stelvio in Italy.
With many of the mountain states in America also seeing snow this weekend, it’s time to start getting excited. It’s September, it’s getting cooler, and the snow is falling.
