Here is the Median Date for the First Measurable Snowfall of the Year in North America

You know the saying “Winter is coming.” Perhaps there’s no better measure of this than the first snowfall of the year. Or maybe that means winter is already here. Either way, the first snowfall makes us start dreaming of powder days to come.

The infographic above is from Brian Brettschneider (@Climatologist49 on Twitter). It shows the median date for the first snowfall of the year since 1980-81.

It is no surprise that the more northern parts of the continent see snow the earliest. How accurate is this map based on where you live? Remember it is the median date of the first snowfall.
