HIGH Avalanche in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, & Montana Today

The past several days have seen the Northern tier of the country getting bombarded by storms. These storms have brought snow, wind, and, most recently, abundant warm Pacific air to the mountains. Today, HIGH avalanche danger exists in four states, with CONSIDERABLE conditions in the Tetons and other regions of Wyoming.

There are three main avalanche problems today in the region impacted by the last weeks storms (depending on your exact location, there may be more or less):

The snow is expected to settle quickly and the HIGH rating will likely reduced to CONSIDERABLE this weekend. The backcountry is mostly heavy, wind-buffed powder – fun, but definitely not all-time and not worth getting into an accident over.
