Hiker Found Dead Today of Highest Summit in Maine – Mt. Katahdin

According to Baxter State Park, Maine officials, the body of a male hiker was found on the summit of Mt. Katahdin, the highest mountain in the state of Maine at 5,269′, on Thursday, October 8th 2020, at 10am.

A Blackhawk helicopter landed on the summit of the mountain at 3:44pm on Thursday and retrieved the body.

There have been 2 deaths on Mt. Katahdin in the past 2-days.

On Wednesday, Donald MacGillis, 74, died after falling 50-feet from Knife Ridge on Mt. Katahdin.

Donald was rescued by Blackhawk helicopter and transported to the hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
