Hoodoo Ski Area will close on Wednesday, February 4, for a full assessment day as the resort grapples with an exceptionally thin snowpack following a winter marked by severe snow drought across the Pacific Northwest. The decision comes as forecasts call for daytime temperatures climbing above 50°F for much of the coming week, accelerating snowmelt on an already fragile base.
In a message shared on the resort’s Facebook page, Hoodoo said it has received meaningful snowfall only once this season, leaving conditions “early season” in the most generous sense. Overnight cold temperatures have helped preserve what snow remains, but the resort said the pack is “hanging on by a thread.” During Wednesday’s closure, mountain crews will survey conditions and begin shoveling snow where possible in an effort to keep key terrain skiable.
Hoodoo said it remains cautiously optimistic that the work will allow the resort to reopen Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., though that plan depends on how conditions respond to warming temperatures. Guests who purchased Wednesday lift tickets will be offered either a refund or the option to transfer their ticket to another day.
The closure also impacts the resort’s popular Onesie Wednesday tradition, but Hoodoo said the discount will be honored on both Thursday and Friday this week to accommodate regulars. Hoodoo acknowledged the inconvenience of the midweek shutdown and thanked guests for their patience as staff work to extend the season under challenging conditions.
“We don’t know what Mother Nature will give us,” the resort said in its statement, adding that updates will be shared as conditions evolve. Visitors are encouraged to check Hoodoo’s website for the latest operating information as crews work to keep the mountain running during one of the most snow-starved winters in recent memory.
