On the Snow’s Snow Science: How Steep is Steep? is sure to catch you off guard, when you’re skiing a gnarly line, its not truly as steep as you would think! Meteorologist Joel Gratz informs us that we always overestimate the steepness of terrain because of fear that we have of descending that hill. Along with that, 30 to 45 degree slopes are the most avalanche prone terrain because all they need is a trigger and that trigger is a skier. Anything below 30 degrees is unlikely to slide and anything above 45 degrees tends to slide naturally.
