Sunshine Village Ski Resort in Banff, AB has had to adjust their rules, and operating procedures after videos from the ski resort shows what looks like overcrowding and long lines.

The footage shows lines of skiers snaking through a parking lot between the rows of vehicles and lines into buildings at the resort’s base.

The resort says that because patrons were social distancing, the lines look way worse than they actually were.

Sunshine Village says that once its parking lot has reached capacity, access to the resort will be temporarily restricted to combat the problem.

“We usually have a large number of guests leaving at around 11 a.m. or noon and when guests leave, that will open up other spots for guests in the afternoon to join us.”

– Kendra Scurfield, brand and communication director for Banff Sunshine Village

The resort will experiment with the “rolling entrance” approach for a few weeks and revisit the issue later in the season should they need to.

In a season where resorts will be learning as they go, I’m sure we’ll see plenty of other resorts tweak and adjust their rules and policies as the season progresses.
