Hunter Mountain, NY, had hoped to start its lifts turning on November 19th, but yesterday had to finally admit that that’s not going to happen.

The resort, bought by Vail Resorts two years ago, announced on social media that they would be opening late this year, although they didn’t specify a date.

Sorry, #HunterMountain skiers and riders – we were hoping to hit our target opening date of Nov. 19, but there is only so much we can do to control Mother Nature and it looks like we will be opening just a bit later this year. Please check back for updates – we hope to open soon!

The resort joins other Vail Resorts ski areas Park City, Heavenly, Northstar California, and Okemo MOuntain Resort, VT, postponing opening due to the weather.

According to Wikipedia, Hunter Mountain is a ski resort located in Greene County, New York, about three hours northwest of New York City in Hunter, New York. It features a 1,600-foot (488 m) vertical drop.

From its inception in the late 1950s, the management of Hunter Mountain has employed extensive snowmaking facilities. Hunter was the first ski destination in the state of New York to install snowmaking, the first in the world with top-to-bottom snowmaking, and the first in the world to have 100-percent snowmaking coverage of the mountain.
