Authorities are investigating the death of a guest at Timberline Mountain Ski Resort in Tucker County, West Virginia, following an incident that occurred on Sunday. The resort, located near Davis in the Canaan Valley region, confirmed the death in a public statement released the following day. Resort representatives said the incident is under active investigation and that no additional details are being released at this time.
In its statement, Timberline expressed condolences to the guest’s family and loved ones and asked for patience while the investigation continues. Resort officials cited respect for the family’s privacy as the reason for limiting further comment.
Local news outlets WOAY and WVNS reported that the death occurred while the individual was at the resort, though the circumstances, identity of the guest, and cause of death have not been made public. No law enforcement agency has yet released additional information regarding the investigation.
The resort also acknowledged the response efforts of its ski patrol team, mountain operations staff, and local emergency services, crediting them with acting quickly and professionally following the incident.
“Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our guests,” the resort said in its public communication, thanking the surrounding community for its support during what it described as a difficult moment.
Timberline Mountain Ski Resort originally opened in 1987 and operates within the Canaan Valley area of eastern West Virginia, a region known for winter recreation and outdoor tourism. The resort has not indicated whether normal operations were affected following the incident. As of Tuesday morning, no further updates had been issued. The photo at the top of this article is the wrong ski area. That’s Canaan Valley Resort, which is a few miles from Timberline. Nearby but wrong hill. Anyway the news is tragic but Timberline has very new modern lifts with good safety bars so I fear part of the story is that the bar wasn’t in use.
