Northeast Italy’s Alpe Tognola is getting a big-time summer facelift.
In one of the biggest investments in the history of the Funivie Seggiovie San Martino area, Alpe Tognola is getting a variety of upgrades that aim to improve the area’s skiing experience, snowmaking efficiency, and reduce the impact of infrastructure. The 16 million euro ($18.2 million) investment includes a brand-new six-seat chairlift alongside new trails, improved snowmaking facilities, and a complete renovation of its snow park.
“An ambitious, concrete, visionary investment,” Funivie Seggiovie San Martino CEO and president of ANEF Valeria Ghezzi said in a Neve Italia article. “A project that combines innovation, technology, sustainability, and landscaping within the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park.“
The Scandola-Conca Side’s New Chairlift
Alpe Tognola’s biggest project is building its new six-seat detachable chairlift. It will be replacing the current fixed-grip three-seater Conca and Scandola chairlifts, which have been operating since 1991 and 1989, respectively.
The new high-speed lift will carry skiers 1,324 meters from its bottom station to the top station. With an operating speed of five meters per second and a ride time of four minutes and 27 seconds, the new lift will operate twice as fast as the two chairlifts it replaces, improving uphill capacity and reducing wait times for skiers.
The lift will also reduce the infrastructure needed to carry skiers in the Scandola-Conca area. By replacing two lifts with one, Alpe Tognola will go from two plants to one, from four stations to two, and from 33 supports to just 10.
New Slopes and Improved Snowmaking
To go along with the new chairlift, the Scandola and Conca slopes are getting additional upgrades.
Trails on the Conca slope will undergo redevelopment, including an extension of over 700 meters to connect the Conca slope to the Scandola slope. Alpe Tognola will also modernize the Conca’s snowmaking system.
The Scandola slope will undergo a complete overhaul and an upgrade of its snowmaking system. In total, thirty new snowmaking guns will be installed across the resort to increase system efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure artificial snow coverage in seasons with short cold spells. As for the slope renovations, the new configuration is designed to reduce traffic on the backbone of the Rododendro slope, one of Alpe Tognola’s busiest spots.
A New Funslope and Park Improvements
Rounding out Alpe Tognola’s renovations is the addition of a new funslope and improvements to its terrain parks.
The San Martino Snowpark will be relocated and redesigned with progression in mind. The upgraded park will include more modern features aimed at making it a freestyle hub in the Funivie Seggiovie San Martino area. Its relocation will also improve its integration with the rest of the resort.
Alongside the new and improved San Martino Snowpark, the existing Bordercross Valley trail will be transformed into the Dolomia Funslope.
An Exciting Season Ahead
With construction beginning this summer, skiers visiting Alpe Tognola during the 2026-27 season can expect a more modernized feel, with many of the planned upgrades expected to be completed either before or during the season. With a new chairlift, improved snowmaking, and redesigned trails and parks, skiers can enjoy a more efficient and reliable Alpe Tognola.
