Alex Vittur, the longtime manager and close confidant of no.1 ranked tennis player Jannik Sinner, has become the largest single shareholder in the holding company that controls one of Italy’s premier ski destinations: Kronplatz. According to multiple Italian media reports, Vittur recently acquired approximately 5,000 shares in Kronplatz Holding AG from entrepreneur Thomas Gatterer in a deal reportedly worth around €10 million ($11.6 million). Combined with shares he already owned, the purchase gives Vittur control of roughly 13% of the company, making him the largest individual shareholder among the holding’s 589 stakeholders.

Kronplatz Holding oversees several key tourism businesses tied to the Kronplatz/Plan de Corones ski region in South Tyrol, including Kronplatz Seilbahn, Kronplatz Mobility, Kronplatz Touristik, and Kronplatz Gastronomie. The companies manage ski lifts, slopes, bike trails, transport infrastructure, hotels, restaurants, and tourism development projects across the resort area. Kronplatz is part of the Dolomiti Superski ski area, which connects 12 ski resorts in the Italian Dolomites under one unified lift-pass network. The ski resort is a regular stop on the women’s FIS Alpine World Cup each year.

The deal marks a significant shift in the ownership structure of one of the Alps’ most commercially important ski destinations. Vittur already sat on the holding company’s board of directors and also serves as vice president of Kronplatz Seilbahn, the company responsible for the resort’s lift infrastructure. While the transaction does not immediately alter the current board composition — which was renewed last year through 2028 — Vittur’s increased stake substantially strengthens his influence within the organization.

According to reporting from Rai Südtirol and Die Neue Südtiroler Tageszeitung, the transaction may also reflect broader strategic disagreements within Kronplatz Holding over the future direction of the resort. Reports suggest tensions have emerged between Vittur and current president Christian Gasser regarding the balance between traditional ski operations and a growing emphasis on luxury hospitality and high-end tourism development.

Kronplatz Touristik, one of the holding’s subsidiaries, already operates several hotel properties and has reportedly explored additional upscale accommodation projects in the region. Some shareholders, according to local reports, have questioned the profitability of the tourism division and expressed concerns about expanding further into luxury development.

Vittur has not publicly commented on the acquisition. Gasser similarly declined to discuss the matter when approached by local media.

Born in Brunico in 1984, Vittur is a former professional tennis player who later founded Avima Sports & Business Management. He is best known internationally for managing Sinner’s career and is widely credited with helping persuade the future world No. 1 to leave competitive skiing behind as a teenager to focus entirely on tennis.

Today, Vittur exclusively manages Sinner’s sponsorships, commercial partnerships, and image rights. Under his guidance, Sinner has become not only one of the dominant figures in men’s tennis, but also one of the highest-earning athletes in the world. According to Forbes, Sinner ranked among the world’s top 50 highest-paid athletes in 2025.

Now, Vittur appears poised to play an increasingly influential role not only in global tennis, but also in shaping the future of alpine tourism in South Tyrol.
