June Mountain Ski Area in the eastern Sierra Nevada, CA, closed on Sunday, April 9, 2023.
June Mountain was purchased by Mammoth in 1986, who decided in 2012 to discontinue operations because it had failed to make money in the previous 26 years. After much uproar by the citizens of June Lake and initiatives and investments by Mono County, Mammoth invested in new lift infrastructure and snowmaking, and the ski resort reopened the following year. June Mountain season pass holders will have access to Mammoth for the remainder of the 22/23 season.
June Mountain Ski Area covers 1,500 acres of skiable area with 35 runs serviced by seven lifts. It is popular with families with many wide-open runs, perfect for beginners. The resort is situated at 7,545ft and extends to a top elevation of 10,090ft.
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is located about half an hour south of June Mountain Ski Area and offers about 3,500 acres of skiable area. The resort announced recently that it will offer skiing until August 2023. Thanks to its best season on record, the resort will be open daily until the end of July and will open on weekends in August for summer skiing.
