June Mountain, California, closed yesterday due to extreme weather and safety concerns. The mountain received 20 inches of snow and expects 32 inches on Thursday and another 9 inches on Friday. This prompted it to close due to avalanche risks and safety for its guests and employees. Juneโ€™s base depth was just 26 inches before the most recent storm.

June Mountain Ski Area, located just 25 miles north of Mammoth Mountain, is a true hidden gem of the Eastern Sierra. The laid-back vibe, incredible views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, and low crowds make it an excellent destination for skiing and riding.

June Mountain posted a message on its Instagram Page:

“We tried but cannot keep up with deteriorating weather conditions. We are closed for the day. After a valiant effort from our entire team we cannot safely open the mountain but will continue to work and prepare for tomorrow.

Due to high avalanche danger, operations are delayed this morning. Ski Patrol is actively performing mitigation work, and weโ€™ll assess conditions throughout the day. At this time, we do not have an estimated opening. Stay tuned for updates and be safe out there.”
