Report from December 30, 2025
Yesterday I leaned into my little “Chuting Project” here at Kicking Horse.
There are 10 chutes on this wall.
2 of the chutes need more snow before they’re fun/viable.

That leaves 8 skiable chutes ranging from completely benign to pretty damn spicy.
I’ve been absent-mindedly chipping away at them since December 21, but yesterday, I realized I could ski all 8 of them if I focused.
Well, maybe I wasn’t that focused because I skied yesterday, I couldn’t resist skiing “Christmas Tree Chute” for the second time.

There were no tracks in it, and it drew me in like a tractor beam…
I started out the day in a very steep, winding chute that delighted me.
2 had hit it the day before, yet it mattered not.

They’d knocked all the sluff down and I found benefit in being guided by their tracks through the most confusing section.
I ended up on a rock shelf on the right side of the chute, just wide enough for my skis to clank on the right wall when I turned and my tips to hang into space on the left.
The next choke was mellower with a small rock pillow I was able to get up on top of and ollie off.

The lower chute consisted of firm, old sluff, and I just kept it together.
The apron was dreamy, and I felt a smirk curl up in the left corner of my mouth.
Back up.

Chute #2 was “Christmas Tree” for my second go at it.
I’ve gotten it twice fresh and it was much nicer last time is fluffy, new snow sluff.
Yesterday, the chute was full of avalanche debris and kicked my ass.

There were a few sections of good snow and those pieces were delightful.
A world-class chute.
The light was extremely flat by this time, making the lower chute and apron as dark as night.

I was very happy to see the flats and easily made up my mind to head home.
2 incredible chutes in one day felt good enough 🙂
Thanks, BC!
