Report from March 6, 2025

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, located outside of Golden, British Columbia, sits on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains, offering stunning views of the Purcell and Selkirk mountain ranges. The resort also has some of the most challenging in-bounds skiing in the world.

Kicking Horse dazzles even the most seasoned of riders with access to more than eighty chutes.ย The steeps demand that you bring your A-game and full attention. And with so many options, Kicking Horse feels like a mountain that would keep you on your toes for good. Remembering our visit thirteen months ago to the day, the lower mountain was shockingly accessible and provides an incredible maze of technical trees.

Kicking Horse Grizzly Bear Refuge in Golden, British Columbia, is home to a grizzly bear named “Boo.” Orphaned in 2002 after his mother was illegally killed, Boo has lived in the Kicking Horse refuge for more than two decades. Boo’s refuge is a 20-acre enclosure which is designed to mimic a wild habitat. Kicking Horse offers guided tours to educate the public about grizzlies and conservation, providing a rare opportunity to see a grizzly in a near-natural setting. Today, we saw him performing an early season stretching routine.

Beyond the bears, Thursday brought a mostly sunny day, with light winds and some clouds passing through. But wintery weather promises to return as soon as this weekend. In terms of today’s snow, with only a few showers of relatively fresh snow, the northern aspects were loaded with pockets of powder that felt absolutely fresh.
