Killington Resort, VT, just announced they would open at noon on Thursday. Although it was beaten by Sugar Mountain, NC, to be the first open in the East, it will be the first resort open in the Northeast.

Update: Sunday River has announced that they will be opening 9am on Thursday, making Killington the second resort to open in the Northeast this season.

Killington will be open on Thursday for Season Passholders and Ikon Passholders on Thursday, and they will begin selling day tickets on Friday. The terrain open will be short intermediate runs, Rime and Reason, off of the North Ridge Quad, and more will open throughout the next few weeks. Elsewhere at the resort, snow is being piled on Superstar. This trail will not be open to the public until December, but it is scheduled to be the venue of a World Cup race on Thanksgiving weekend. Snow control approval is Wednesday (tomorrow), so we’ll know more about the status of the race then.

On opening day, all skiers and riders will start their day by riding up the K1 Express Gondola and using the Peak Walkway to reach the top of North Ridge. At the end of the day, they will use the walkway to return to the K1 Gondola, which they will then ride down to return to the base area.
