After a spring marked by persistent rain and unseasonably warm temperatures, Killington Resort, Vermont, will reopen Saturday for what is expected to be the final day of its 2024-25 ski season. The resort, renowned for hosting one of the longest ski seasons in the East, has battled the elements in recent weeks, prompting a temporary closure through Friday to preserve dwindling snowpack and allow grooming crews to prepare the remaining terrain.
Saturdayโs operations will be limited to advanced and expert skiers and riders, with access via the Canyon Quad from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Resort officials warn that walking will be required to reach skiable areas, reflecting the challenging late-season conditions. The hike park on Upper Double Dipper has closed for the season due to a lack of snow.
In a gesture of community support, all ticket proceeds from Saturday-priced tickets at $30 will be donated and matched to benefit Whaleback Mountainโs chairlift replacement project. Midweek pass holders are invited to join, and spring pass holders retain unlimited access through the end of the season.
The closure of the Superstar trail and lift for construction has shifted late-season skiing to the Canyon area, with the new high-speed six-pack chairlift slated to open by December 2025. The resortโs K-1 Lodge and other base lodges remain closed, but breakfast and limited retail will be available on Saturday. Killington has transitioned to cashless transactions, accepting major credit cards and mobile payments.
As the resort prepares for its 174th operating day, the mood is both celebratory and bittersweet. โWeโre holding on until every last drop of snow melts, as is tradition,โ Killington stated, emphasizing its commitment to delivering the longest season possible despite the weatherโs toll. Killington has seen 253ย inches of snow this season and currently has a 12-inch base.
Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets and rentals online in advance. For up-to-date information, visit the resortโs website or text guest services.
Elsewhere on the East Coast, Jay Peak, Vermont’s last day of the season, will be Sunday, May 11, and Sommet Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, is open through May 19.
