The Beast of the East isn’t quite ready to roar. Despite a brief cold snap that allowed Killington Resort to fire up its snowguns this week, the mountain announced that it won’t open for skiing or riding this weekend as originally hoped.
“Mother Nature gave us another quick window to fire up the snowguns,” the resort wrote in an Instagram update, noting that its snowmaking crew has been “going full tilt—chasing temps, fine-tuning setups, and making every hour of snowmaking count.”
The resort said it needs a few more sustained nights of cold weather to build a base deep enough to open the upper mountain. The next promising stretch of cold is expected early next week, and Killington plans to make the most of it.
“If all goes to plan,” the post continued, “we’re eyeing the middle of next week for Opening Day on the upper mountain.”
Killington, known for its aggressive early-season push and World Cup racecourse, has been one of the first resorts to open in the East for more than a decade. Fans can stay updated via the Conditions Report at killington.com—and, as the resort reminded followers, “think snow, Beast fans.”
