Kirkwood’s Fawn Ridge

If you’re not en route already you’ll be missing the opening of Kirkwood’s legendary backside.

With the majority of Kirkwood’s terrain being advanced, this mountain is a force to be reckoned with. Kirkwood has had a remarkable couple weeks after a considerably dry autumn. With 2,000′ of vertical drop and a base level of 7,800′ this mountain sits in the perfect spot for storms to roll through. As we’ve seen this season with 127 inches in almost a month now has the front side of the mountain skiing great! Kirkwood’s Backside will open Friday, December 13, 2019, along with 100% terrain anticipated.

Sierra Nevada’s Snowpack

Kirkwood is known for the steeps and deeps here in South Lake Tahoe. The landscape and orientation of the mountain pocket storms and will receive substantial snowfall throughout the season. From the chutes to the tree skiing you’re guaranteed to have some of your best days on the hill through the season. The backside offers open bowls along with cornice drops and cliffs for the advanced rider. With some fresh snow forecasted it’s looking like a great weekend ahead for “the Wood”.

With Sierra at Tahoe and Heavenly opening more and more terrain each day as well, South Lake Tahoe is having an extraordinary early season.
