La Clusaz, one of Franceโ€™s most storied ski resorts, has honored legendary freeskier Candide Thovex by naming a ski slope after him. This tribute cements Thovexโ€™s deep connection to the mountain where he first honed his craft and later revolutionized the sport. The newly named โ€œCandide Thovexโ€ run is in the Massif de Balme sector, between the Crintiaux track and the Col de Balme chairlift. This terrain has long been synonymous with Thovexโ€™s rise to fame, serving as the backdrop for some of his most iconic feats. The run, marked with signs installed in collaboration with Thovex, is accessible via the Col de Balme lift.

Thovex expressed his gratitude on social media, writing:

โ€œI learned to ski at Balme, and it taught me everything. This mountain shaped my skiing. I am honored to see part of Balme bear my name, and I want to thank La Clusaz for this recognition.โ€

At 42, the French freeskier is one of the greatest to ever do it. He has built a career few can match, blending competition success, innovation, and mainstream influence. He made his mark early, securing X Games medals and launching massive airs over Chadโ€™s Gap in Utah at just 17. A severe back injury nearly ended his trajectory, but he returned stronger, winning the Freeride World Tour in 2010. His โ€œOne of Those Daysโ€ video series captivated millions, pushing the limits of what was thought possible on skis. Today, he continues to shape skiingโ€™s future, joining the National Selection Tour as an advisor as it incorporates skiing into its historically snowboard-dominated events.

By dedicating a run in his name, La Clusaz recognizes his lasting impact and invites skiers to experience the terrain that molded one of the best of all time.ย
